Grotesque magazine accepts works of fiction, non-fiction, micro-fiction, flash-fiction, splatter-punk, poetry, photography, digital and visual art. All entries must be in English. Translations are acceptable, however, translations should be sent with a copy of the original text. While we consider most works associated with the genre, please keep in mind that our goal is to offer something new within the horror genre, so while sci-fi isn’t immediately disqualified, it must have some aspect(s) of horror for us to entertain the idea of publishing it.  If your story is gratuitously violent, graphic, or sexual we insist that these features be an integral part to the story.  We prefer stories that rely on developed characters, a distinct sense of atmosphere, thoughtful prose, engaging dialogue, and well-chosen details to tell an eerie, creepy, or scary tale.

If you are interested in submitting your work to Grotesque, we strongly encourage you to first familiarize yourself with our quarterly magazine by reading a few of our issues or our online content.

Simultaneous submissions are allowed, but please notify the editors immediately if chosen for publication elsewhere.

No multiple submissions. Please wait until you receive an acceptance or rejection letter before submitting another work.

For all submissions, please include a short third-person bio.

Fiction |  Horror. Mixing of genres is fine as long as one of those genres is horror. We encourage horror-comedy. Keep it under 10,000 words. If a piece is particularly long it must be all that much more impressive for us to consider publishing it. You may submit one (1) piece of fiction at a time.

Non-Fiction |  Reviews and articles having to do with horror.  We encourage articles and reviews of horror Television, movies, books, audio-books, music (Psychobilly, Horror-punk especially), and we’ll also consider reviews of horror related products and foods / drinks. Creepy recipes are desired, as well. If you have a ghost story for The Obituary, please submit it under non-fiction. These entries should be as concise as possible.

Poetry |  We are open to all styles of poetry. Please; however, consider the length guidelines suggested for short stories when submitting longer pieces. Please also avoid elaborate formatting. You may submit up to five (5) poems at one time.

Art | Visual Arts: Please submit up to five (5) images or samples of your work with an artist statement.  We will consider most works associated with the horror genre.

By act of submission, submitter(s) verify that the work they submit is their own and does not infringe on the copyrights of any other author / artist, story or work, published, or unpublished.
